Psychotherapist & Author

My interest in the human story is at the root of my two career paths. What makes us tick as human beings? What drives us? Blocks us? Causes us joy or sorrow, anger or contentment? How do we get along with others? Overcome obstacles and loss? The questions of our lives make us distinctly human and my training has given me the skills to help my clients understand their stories and change or even enhance them. Reading and writing fiction comes from the same passion for human discovery. The characters we love often mirror aspects of ourselves and the emotions we hold, which is why the experience of reading about them lingers long after the book is closed.

Ultimately, a good storyteller must also be a good listener.

About

I am a licensed psychotherapist with an office in Garden City, NY. I was trained in clinical psychotherapy at New York University, where I received my MSW degree. I have extensive training in couples and family therapy, in addition to treatments for anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, postpartum depression, and substance abuse. I created and led the Parenting Skills Workshop and Families in Recovery group for the Community Organization for Parent and Youth. I am a board member of the Nassau Chapter of the New York State Society for Clinical Social Work.

Prior to this, I received my MA in creative writing and literature from the University of Houston. I worked as a college professor of writing and literature for ten years. I am also a published writer, with my recent collection of short stories, All’s Fair and Other California Stories, to be released in September 2021.

The link between my two paths became clear to me when I recognized we are all living our own stories and our narratives are rich with depth and meaning. My love for human narrative is the drive behind both professions.
